The ECO boiler scheme provides funding for households on low incomes which may be suffering from fuel poverty to have a free boiler and free home insulation installed. The way the Government has decided to target homes with fuel poverty is by reference to them receiving certain state benefits. You must be a homeower or be in private rented accomodation to qualify. If you are in Social Housing then please speak to you council advisor who may be able to assist you through other schemes.

If you are currently in receipt of one of the following you will automatically qualify for a new boiler:

  • Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (with a houshold income of less than £15,860)


If you are not in receipt of one of the benefits above, you will need to receive one of the benefits shown below AND an additional component:

Income support
Income based job seekers allowance
Income related employment and support allowance
Additional components
  • Disability living allowance (higher rate)
  • Pension premium
  • Employment support
  • Child under 16
  • Child under 20 (in full time education but not University)
Benefits that qualify with one additional component
Working tax credit
Additional components
  • Over 60 years old
  • Receive disabled worker element
  • Receive severe disability element
  • Child under 16
  • Child under 20 (in full time education but not University)




What happens next?

If you qualify, your details will be passed on to a Gas Safe registered installer who will contact you to arrange an assessment date and discuss when your new boiler will be fitted.
